I got really drunk the other night and people say I did some stupid stuff, but I don't know what to beleive because I can't remeber anything. My mate was with me nearly all night and say I didn't do anything too embarrasing, but some people say I did.

Hypnosis is not really an option, as i really don't know where to find one and can not be bothered to go to the hassle

Please Help

The answer regarding "state-dependent learning" - meaning you may remember things that occured in a blackout if you get drunk again has some validity, but chances are you'll end up in another blackout.

The reason we can't remember things during an alcohol-induced "blackout" is that no memory has been stored in the brain. None, nada.

I too caution you about the dangers of binge drinking. Besides not being able to remember, blackouts are an early warning sign of tolerance to alcohol and may be an indication of future problems with alcohol. The available research suggests that blackouts, by themselves, are relatively poor predictors of alcohol dependence. However, it is very important to be aware that blackouts often accompany other signs of problem drinking. When taken together, this collection of signs can indicate a problem with alcohol. At the very least, blackouts represent a dangerous state in which the drinker is typically extremely impaired and at great risk of doing harm to her/himself or others. Blackouts should always be a cause for concern, and should force one to closely examine her/his drinking habits. If you feel (now or in the future) you have a problem with booze seek help.

Be careful and be well.

The honest truth? Get drunk again lol. The reason why you can't remember is because of something called "state cues". You aren't in the same "state" anymore (ie. not drunk) so you won't remember what happened. Try going back to the place where these events happened - you may remember through "environmental cues" - eg. if your friends say you jumped on a table and pulled down your pants, you may remember this when you see the table lol.

Hope this helps!

P.S. I don't condone getting really drunk so that you will remember - you will forget again once you're sober lol!

I would highly recommend that you find a counselor you feel comfortable with. Contact A.A. for the names of counselors in your area. Any time you cannot remember what happened when you were drinking you need help.

this may sound like a stupid answer, but seriously, video tape it. You may regret it later, but you'll sure as hell remember :) We rented a cabin last weekend and there's a lot of things people don't remember but saw on the videotape.

According to state dependent learning, you might be able to remember if you get drunk again. It's a vicious cycle.

I don't think there is any way to remember...did anybody catch it on videotape?

If not, it couldn't have been that bad. Maybe they are just pulling your leg.
