I had compare the salary range of these careers, physicist got 80,000 average salary, chemist got 65,000 average salary, biologist get 60,000 salary and doctor gets 120,000 average salary. So why do doctor gets more salary than the others? Does that mean that doctors are more smarter than scientist in general?

Of course it doesn't mean that! I've known some pretty stupid doctors in my time!

I think it's probably a matter of which jobs are more in demand (and at $120K, I'd say that Doctors are pretty high-demand professions....EVERYONE needs a doctor).

There is no standardization for "smart."

There are brilliant doctors and there are doctors who are complete idiots.
There are physicists who have found new stars and ways to defy gravity and there are physicists who aren't fit to teach high school.
There are biologists with the potential to find the cure for cancer or AIDS, and there are biologists whom I wouldn't allow in the same room with my hamster.

Its all a matter of the PERSON.

There are going to be smarter and dumber people in EVERY profession.

No a ph.d (what I am getting now) takes around 6 to 8 years to get. Medical school is around 7 years unless you go into specialization (which will be more).

The reason why doctors get paid more is because they are on-call for 24 hours a day and that they get sued more often than research scientists. They are also dealing with the added stress that people may DIE in their hands. Although research is very hard too (our experiments may dictate us to come in in the middle of the night and also on weekends) doctors have people's lives at stake (and thus higher insurance rate). Thats why they get paid more. Its not because they are smarter.

Unfortunately, salary has nothing to do with intelligence. As for comparing those careers, the career isn't a measure of smarts: there are just as many really smart people, and just as many not-so-smart people in all 4 of those choices. If you're trying to decide which career to aim at, think about this - you'll work harder and learn better if you like what you're doing.

I think you can have smart people and dummies in all those professions. It's hard to put a price on intellegence, because by that, a plumber would be smarter than a science teacher in a high school.

Doctors are scientists, just ones who deal with people. I think this is a pretty loaded question.

Most doctors have to maintain there own office. Hire employees (Nurses, Receptionists, Bookkeepers). Have malpractice insurance. They have a longer required education that is very stringent and competitive

The other occupations generally work within company's.

I don't think you can equate salaries with intelligence - how much does President Bush earn a year?

The salary more accurately reflects the level of responsibility than the level of intelligence.

It's not that doctors are smarter, it's just that their services are more in demand.
