I didn't know you could change your overall personality by choice. I know we can choose to act more like other people's personality traits at times but to change the overall personality - I'm not sure.
It sounds like you have a melochally personality if you're "artistic and reclusive." They are the thinkers, they have actually think to much. Their favorite color tends to be yellow. Their favorite phrase tends to be "Do it right" They often ask, "How can we do this BETTER?" They tend to prefer quality. They feel most secure by doing things "right." They are very detailed oriented. Bottom line people like Donald Trump or Rush Limbaugh get on their nerves. They like a controled, clean enviroment and they are very hard on themselves and those around them. They're very serious people & have a hard to lightening up.
They also tend to be geniuses and help society greatly. They are great support people and make great doctors /health care workers or artists but usually they don't like to be in a leadership role. They are forever calculating and counting things. I could go on but you get the point(s).
There's a lot more people like you than you may realize. Some people (and you may be) are a mix of different personality styles. While others are just one. It's o.k. Give yourself a break! And let go the need to be perfect. I know it's tough, but you probably like challenges!!!

Some basic truths apply here...
- You don't just change your personality. Personality is the product of how you think and behave...patterns ingrained during your life. Ingrained means that they are enabled by physical chains of neurons that have grown together. Even changing one aspect of your personality means going against the grain for years...not many people do that successfullly.
- All the best artists are slightly reclusive "outsiders." They are unique, individual thinkers. They have something to "say" with their work because they don't think like the herd.
- Three close friends is a lot. I only have a couple best friends after all these decades.
- The worst thing that can happen to you is to be accepted by everyone. The would entail conforming to their expectations, which would cause you to lose your true self, your individuality.
My advice is love the close friends you have. Be yourself, work on being your best self...the artist. This is the best path, the high road to becoming intriguing to others. Then make others take responsibility for accepting you the way you are and finding you interesting and worthy of friendship.
Don't lose your SELF. It's all you have.

Maybe its because the masses are wierd and you have a hard time dumping down to their level. I know it gets lonely at times but just think about how special you are. Artist, slightly reclusive, and you probly have alot of deep thoughts about life that most people would not talk about which is ok. 3 close friends is actually pretty good. Dont feel too down you have a wonderful brain that is well above the rest of the sheep and thats why you dont fit in. Welcome to the club :) !

How old are you? If you're in early 20's or younger...don't worry, as you grow older you'll re-define yourself even more in your unique way and appreciate your weird personality. I was called "weird" all the time growing up (I never understood it) and I too am an artist and was a bit reclusive...but I grew out of it, came to love how different I was (and once I was out of high school and matured...guys LOVE how different I am). Just be proud of it, educate yourself, develop your talent and just remeber....they are only people!!!

Don't obsess about the answer from ledos81. That's the first thing on the agenda. If you are the type of personality I think you are then you will obsess about that one crappy answer. He/She is trying to trip you up and don't you dare let it happen. If you have just 1 person you can call a friend then you are very lucky. A lot of people don't even have 1 friend. I'm one of them. There isn't a single person on the planet that I would consider a friend so don't take what you have for granted.

I understand what you are saying. I'm the same--hate to go out and do anything, really don't like to reach out to new people and let them into my weird little world because its...wierd. However, as I entered the professional world I found that I had to put a lot of that aside and get out of my box in order to be effective at my job, and that went a long way towards changing my personality. Not to say that I'm not wierd, but I know how to "act normal" when circumstances warrant it.
As for friends, I cherish the few friends I have that I can be really honestly myself with. when I was younger I really wished I had more, but as time has gone on, and I've faced a lot of hard challenges and had my friends there beside me for all of them, I found out that there are the people who love and support you--and there are aquantances. I have plenty of people at work or online that are aquantances. I have three real friends. And I'm good with that.

Uhm, even if you're not an artist you'll still be you. You can't escape yourself, wherever you go there you are.
The only way to change a personality is with drugs or maybe electroshock though both are temporary.
Just be yourself and make friends on your own terms. You shouldn't have to change for people to like you, because then they just like a fake you. That's not cool.

I hate my personality too so I understand what you're going through. Just do whatever that makes you happy. It seems like you are already happy. Because for me, I have to work on my personality more because I am always depress or moody.Oh and at least you have three friends! I only have 2 close friends but I'm already happy with that.

The sounds like me! But like open up and be fun and just like talk to everyone. Some people that you meet and get to know you'll wonder how you ever got through life without them! But you should deffinatly not change who you are. Being different is awesome Sure sometimes it sucks but be proud that your not a clone :]
Hope that helped!

...i'm the same way.....you don't want to have a lot of friends just so you can say you have a lot of friends, have those few who you can REALLY trust with your secrets, your feelings, etc.......never give up who you are for the sake of pleasing others....i'm like that...i only have like 2-3 close friends and it's cuz i'm just annoyed by a lot of people..haha.....especially if you're in high school, half the people we think are our friends are just people who want to be able to say it....being an artist is a fantastic thing :)..i'm a BIT of one myself (nothing pro)...honestly though, once you become confident with yourself, you'll have no trouble attracting others if you really desire it.... :)....how can someone else begin to like you if you don't like you first??!!!! :)
