Marriage can only last as long as the couple is alive. But the long-lasting effects of their marriage, what they passed on to their children and the difference they made in the world, can last longer than anything else, even a diamond.

Comparing mother's nature million years of hard labor to make diamonds vs 10 minutes drive through Las Vegas style marriage, I am betting on diamonds.

It depends on how you treat either of them. Diamonds can be destroyed just as well as a marriage. You have to work to keep either in good condition. Diamonds require washing, polishing, certifying. Marriage require work, choices, polishing with continued interest in spouse and the marriage, and re-certification - must make a DAILY choice to continue the marriage and love. Both require work to maintain, but only one is worth all the work required. I still don't have a diamond to go with the vows exchanged years ago, but I wouldn't change a thing in order to get that shiny display.
