The answer is number 3--bringing the brutality of the war into people's living rooms.

The war in Vietnam was, of course, highly unpopular, but the images of destruction and misery on the nightly news just made it more so.

During Korea and WWII, people heard about what had happened, but they only had photographs to show them what was really going on. It was quite a shock to America's system when they finally saw the toll the war in Vietnam was taking on a daily basis, both on Americans and on the Vietnamese.
