If you wash a silk necktie, you will have to throw it away, since you cannot wash silk with water or it will be ruined forever.
Some people here have told you that you should take it to the dry cleaner. You can do that. But you can also go to WalMart or some other such store and buy yourself Dryell. This is basically a kit to use for clothes that can only be dry cleaned. It's great because it really works and you can use it in your machine... the dryer to be more specific. And it works! I do my husband's neckt ties all the time with it, as well as my linen suits that can only be dry cleaned. And it's way less expensive than the drycleaner...

For under $10 you can get the Dryel home dry cleaning kit at a supermarket. It comes with the bag to put the clothes in, a bottle of stain remover solution and the things that make the clothes smell nice. The stain remover really works for dry clean only items. I never spend the extra money getting things dry cleaned. Then you just buy refills and it's so much cheaper. You can put 3 large pieces of clothing in the bag at one time, so it's a lot cheaper.

Don't - it's not worth it. Have it dry-cleaned instead.
