I like the idea of the photo and decorated frame that was suggested earlier. If he likes music, maybe a cd. Tickets to the local cinema. A planned outing to a sports event; or concert or local theatrical production. Perhaps a book about his favourite subject or interest. How about a novel toy from a toy shop like a kite or a neat puzzle or kaleidoscope or other neat gimmick?

Hopefully nothing too expensive, since most 17 year old girls go through boyfriends galore during that stage! You can go to the dollar store with ten bucks and get ten gifts.

How about a nice pen? (jk-it's from the movie Say Anything...)
Well, what about something he can use when he goes to college next year. Maybe a cool backpack or messenger bag.

maybe a gift card to one of his favorite stores. ior a music store, everyone loves music. Or something personal. I know that whenever i had no money i gave from the heart. Like how i collect rocks and crystals, so i find one in my room that i really loved, and package it creatively, and give it to my husband, (boyfriend at the time,) and tell him it is good luck, and that it makes me think of him. it always touches their hearts ya know?

While its not particularly imaginative - vouchers to whatever you feel appropriate would ensure he gets what he wants from his favourite store.
