I just found out my contract at my current place of employment (a lawfirm) has been extended to July!!!!! That's great news for me, but why didn't anyone tell me until now?? I've been searching like crazy to find a new job before the end of my term here (originally until the end of March) I appreciate the extension, but why do I have to find out through a back door??

Some employers keep it quiet until they are sure and it is there final decision.
And another reason is that sometimes it is a last minute decision.
It usually all depends on the work load and the money.
They need to make a profit for each quarter. They sometimes are not sure until the middle of the that quarter, or March.
You may explain to them how hard it is for you to find out so late. Tell them you want a 30 day notice for termination so you can get another job in place. They may just honor it as they should.

Hey, don't complaign. they've been working on my paperwork to make me a full time instead of a part time employee for more than a month. At least you've got the extension.

Probably just everyday rudeness. Or perhaps everyone thought you knew. or perhaps just an oversight. But, it sounds like you have something to be happy about, so focus on that and let the oversight, or whatever, go.
