EXACTLY! Good question! What people dont seem to realise is that if you was to sit in a car and smoke loads of fags, it wouldnt kill u but if u was to put a pipe to the exhaugst and through the window and sit in the car you would die within minutes! Car fumes cause more damage than passive smoking! So put that one in your pipe and smoke it!
Another thing why is it that when there is a smoking area NON SMOKERS ALWAYS come and sit over in the smokers area and then have the cheak to complain! And DONT tell me its because there are no other seats because the NON SMOKING seats are ALWAYS half empty!
Oh and another thing you are saying about smoking kills well what about drunks? Smokers dont turn violent and want to fight EVERYTHING when we have a *** eh? Drugs they kill people and it is a PROVEN fact that Obease people and alcoholics cost the NHS MORE money than smokers do so to all of the people who say "i dont want to pay my taxes for people who smoke because they choose to" I DONT WANT TO PAY FOR PEOPLE THAT ARE FAT BECAUSE THEY CHOOSE TO EAT OR ALCOHOLICS BECAUSE THEY CHOOSE TO DRINK!!!!! And if anyone is an alcoholic and they say they cant help it because they are addicted well its the same for smokers! Everybody knows that drinking AND smoking go together and even people who arent smokers like a *** with a drink!!!!

First let me say..............I do agree with the smoking ban,but as as tobacco is a legal substance, yes, smokers have rights, after all we pay enough tax on it,which I might add, would have to be paid for by non smokers if we all gave up!!!!We all know smoking is bad for ones health, agreed. But non smokers go on about it as though we were the only ones damaging other peoples health. Cars pollute, AND damage peoples health Anyone prepared to give up their car? No................didn't think so!!! The way this Government is going, you may not have a choice, watch out, they may just drive you off the road!!!!
All those who are saying,no-one has the right to damage anyone else's health, lets ask you................how many of you drive a car??????????????????? Are you willing to own up and admit YOU are damaging peoples health????????? Hypocritical????

I'm a smoker and do understand that non smokers don't want to share my habit.
Before the ban comes into effect a couple of our local pubs have built smoking shelters but one in particular has no room for one just a small beer garden at the back. The owner, to comply with the new law, is erecting a roof over it and this is to be the smoking area.
Fine you may think,no say some of the regulars, because they cannot sit outside in the summer because of us!
It's ok for us "smellies" to sit out in the cold and wet when no-one used to go out there but when it's sunny outside it's not fair.
Double standards or what?

I have just come back from a holiday in Sharm and I have never seen so many people smoking, every man and his dog smoked, the Germans, the Swedes, the Russians, they are all heavy smokers and I felt quite at home puffing away with nobody on my back tutting because I have got the habit. This may be an old adage but I do not drive a car and pollute the atmosphere, I do not get pi***ed and cause upset to any one, I do not do funny drugs and steal to fund the habit, all I do is smoke a few fags and pay through the nose with tax.

Smoking is legal. Smokers are not criminals. People should be worried about another freedom being lost. Compromises could be made between smokers and non smokers, but most non smokers do not want compromise, it's their way or the highway.

Ummm... not all smokers put the health of others at risk.
I am a smoker and very much agree with the smoking ban. I do not smoke in my home for fear of my pets. I do not smoke in the car, as others have to get into my car. I do not smoke near entrances or exits of public places. I do these things by choice out of consideration.
I enjoy not smelling others smoke while I am eating in a resturant. I enjoy coming home from clubs reeking of 1000 peoples smoke.
I at least have the right to not be treated like a second class citizen and have my politness and consideration acknowledged.
AND I have the right to smoke, provided it does not harm others.

We do have rights! I have the right to line the Governments pockets with the 75% taxes I pay on each pack!
I have the right to take a chance on whether I die from a smoke related disease like cancer!
I have the right to wear clothes that don't smell very nice!
What it seems I don't have the right to do is to smoke privately without a bunch of hypocrits telling me I'm polluting their atmosphere, I'm costing the health service millions or I'm generally an undesirable member of society! I'm in my own home so you have a choice whether to share my Atmosphere, I'm slim and eat healthily and never have alcohol which also costs the health service millions, and I don't spend time off work as these same people do because of hangovers! Who does the work when they are absent???
My smoking generally only affects me, my friends obesity only affects her but Alcohol affects the lives of people around you and kills and injures the INNOCENT!! Perhaps we should ban that in Public next!!!!

The problem smokers create , is the pollution to other peoples air, which strangers, family members or lovers then have to breath. Cancer of course, as a smoker, is more likely to kill you in the long term, or a heart attack. However you don't have the right to subject other people to your prognosis
Yes smokers have rights.Smoke by all means, with like minded people, but in your own space. Smokers rights stop, when they move into public areas

Smokers dont HAVE to smoke in public, just like people dont HAVE to pee in public. There's a law agains that (because of hygene etc) so Smokers should be put in a similar situation.
I grew up in a smoking family (My mum did, my dad did, my 3 brothers did, my sister did, my aunts and uncles did (MANY aunts and uncles) and now i've moved out I go to visit these people and can just smell the smoke on my clothes when I come home, and you dont realise until you get out of that invironment how bad that stuff can be for you.
My boyfriend has even asked me on occasion whether I have started smoking, and on occasion its been because one person at work has had a smoke before starting and then spent time near me before I leave work.

I am a smoker and do not believe I have a 'right to smoke' if it infringes upon other people's right to breathe clean air.
Smoking causes other people distress and smells. I have no problem with smoking outside. I think everyone will benefit from the cleaner environment in pubs and clubs. No more minging clothes in the morning!
Also when smoking outside you get to meet other interesting people.
