Did these people drink the cool-aid because they just felt they could not get away from the godlessness in America. They moved out of the country to get away from here and the media made it like a show trail and just generated stories about the preacher that were criminal. So here we have a elected offical going down there to say hey you don't even live in our country any more but were here to check things out.

How much more harrassed could they have been I mean talk about destorying freedom of religion they left the country for it and were hunted done becuase of it.

What gave the USA the right to infringe on this religious group?

I didn't see the movie, but remember when it happened. It was a cult and Jim Jones brainwashed the people. He was their god. He was charismatic and convincing, and I'm sure threatening when he had to be. Personally, I don't see a cult as "religious" because most people that enter into them aren't of sound mind. If they were, I don't think they would allow someone like Jim Jones to brainwash them. Now, to answer your question, I don't think the USA had a right to infringe on the group, or make anyone leave; perhaps the official went down out of concern for constituents and at the behest of family members. I understand their concern.

first of all! your definition of religious group needs changing! what they were doing down there is a CULT!! AND NOT! A RELIGIOUS GROUP! the final evidence of all the hundreds of dead bodies prove sthese people were deluded by this so-called mesiah, jim jones! -if a religios group, or cult! is practicing in ways taht might endanger the well-being of its members, then the government not only can!! but SHOULD!!! STEP IN AND INVESTIGATE! AND LIKE IN TEXAS, TRY TO PUT a stop to it! these people were not!! harassed, as you calim, in your delusional thinking, and it is just sad! that the government could not put a stop tho the mad man jones! sadly, people like you exist, with this kind of sick thinking, and groups like the jones cult are still out there, deluding others so that one mad man can get rich, even if it means brainwashing people into killing themselves!

The right to infringe were brought to the attention of law-enforcement and then Congressman and Senator. Reports from worried love ones, they were unable to contact and/or had sold all of their property and gave it to Jim Jones. There also were rumors of abuse, physically, mentally and sexually.

These people were sincere, but Jim Jones was evil. He destroyed a lot of lives and a world of hurt.

Do you not get that these people were brain washed?? They committed suicide because they blindly followed a wacko like Jones. The officials from the US were there to check things out for their safety. maybe they should have intervened MORE and prevented the suicides.
