Born into a poor Untouchable community; Ambedkar spent his life fighting against the system of Hindu untouchability and the Indian caste system. He is also credited for having sparked the Dalit Buddhist movement. Ambedkar has been honoured with the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award, given for the highest degree of national service. I think the movement against untouchables was just getting started when Gandhi was killed, and still very much a part of Indian society. It seems to still be a part of the culture and hard to eliminate the discrimination.

The bare fact is that Gandhi stage managed to ensure his supremacy .In fact the first generation after independence were groomed to believe that only Gandhiji And Nehru won Independence for us. Gandhiji sidelined Even Netaji and set up Pattabi Seetharamiah against Netaji for congress president post. He openly declared that Pattabi was his candidate but Pattabi lost. But Netaji was forced to resign by circumstances created by Gandhji's followers. Now it would be clear as to why he did not help Dr. Ambedkar. Unfortunately this is the bare truth . But then , Truth Is Stranger than Fiction !!!
