One could pretend it's because they might be embarrassed by having a line show on their trouser legs where there underwear is, and so there's a solution in the thong.
The truth is because people are sick, and Western culture has sexualized even its youngest children and come to see women as having no value except as eye candy. This is true to the extent that if another culture's women value their privacy and the specialness of sharing their body's only in the context of a committed, legal relationships, werstern women will run to the rescue in their uncomfortable shoes to decry the worthlessnes of women in that culture.
My opinion, given that young children don't clense themselves properly after going to the bathroom, and that thongs can cause infection in adult women: Anyone who buys one for a child should be arrested for abuse and neglect.

For the girl who is 14: I can understand that you want to wear a thong at 14, because it does look better underneath a skirt, but the question was about kids younger than that.

I think the better question is why do parents allow their girls ages 7-14 wear thongs!?!? My daughter is almost 8 and there aint no way that child is gonna wear a thong!
Serioulsy, I think its because in our society we are pressuring our children to meet this stereo-type of being sexy and showing our bodies. It seems to me that we dont allow our children, especially our girls, be kids anymore. They are pushed into growing up by the time they are 13 anymore, and I think its sad.

Well i am 14 and i admit i have some!!!
Look, thongs arent a sex thing or even to look good...
thongs are used so women do not get knicker lines. You know when you ahve a pair of trousers/skirt on and you ahve that great big line?
no girl/woman wants that!!!!
Plus i belong to a dance school, and whenever we do shows we are encouraged to wear thongs, as our costumes are very tight fitting, and are usually lycra. It is a bit off putting when you can see our knicker lines!!!
it is just a fashion thing i guess, plus i think more and more younger people are wearing them.
This may sound starnge, but i had pressure on me to get one!
it was kind of the 'in thing' to do! Everyone was asking if i had one, it was embarrasing :(

We live in a sick world where little girls are taught that sexy is something they should strive for. People market clothing to them that only a hooker would wear. Even the dolls that are marketed to little girls today look sleazy ( I mean take a good look at the BRATZ line). I think it is terrible. Children can beg and plead, but as adults we buy the clothes so if our daughters look cheap and trampy, it is our fault.

Because their mom's think they are so cute and want them to be like all the other cool kids.. Kinda gross if you ask me.. I think I turn every shade of red when kids come in my classroom and sit in a pre-k - 5 school with their thong straps hanging out.. Of course, these are the same households who would want to string up any male making a comment to their daughter or want to castrate the male who has sex with their pre-teen.. Hello!!! Have them dress sensibly!!!

I don't know but as a mother of a 3 year old girl I find it disgusting. It's just one more reason for pedophiles to find little girls enticing. Gross!

Because there are actually people out there who would buy these for their kids. As well as T-shirts with the word "b****" or "s***" on them.
It's a sad, sad world sometimes.

You gotta start um young or it'll take them forever to get used to that string up your ***....lol....
a real answer....they just want money. if they can sell thongs to younger people they'll market them. they see older people wearing them and they think its cool and they want to be "more grown up"

So they can wear the same thing as older girls get to wear. This is what all kids want - to be able to have the same things as older people have.
