I work with year 4 children. A girl accused me of hitting her. Was proved to be untrue. She did not want to be in trouble for an incident she started. Should I expect the head to support me? Should the child say sorry and understand the consiquences of what she has done? The incident as now been ignored and everyone is praising the child for been good now. Is this right?

yes you should expect support, yes the child should have been made to apologise as part of her learning into why what she did was wrong, if time has passed however it is probably too late for this, and if she is behaving now i guess you have to let it go
