For the simple reasons:
It rules the hearts of one and all in India.
It is affordable (so far!) by one and all.
It comes in many varieties. My friends have narrated most of them above.
It can be consumed in many forms - straight from tree as a fruit, extract from the fruit as juice / nectar, its pulp processed as Jam and Chutney, spicy as a pickle, mixed with milk and curds as shakes.....
Its other qualities....as can be referred to in other answers here.
And it has its origin in India.
