Muscle spasms can cause cramps and are usually brought on by the following:
Muscle fatigue
Heavy exercise
Dehydration
Pregnancy
Hypothyroidism
Reduced levels of magnesium or calcium in the body
Other metabolic problems
Alcoholism
Kidney failure
Medications
If it's muscle twitches that you're experiencing, that's a different thing.
For muscle spasms, slow stretching often brings relief.
Take care.

There could be several reasons and therefore could be several approaches to get rid of the problem...ranging from a diet to cutting nerves.
The best thing you could do on your own would be to get enough sleep and de- poison your organism.
No nicotine, caffeine and no alcohol and lots of fresh food resp. vitamins and minerals.
Esp. Bananas are of help (calcium and vit. B12) - they can even cure charlie horses.
You also might find relieve by doing some light exercises that involves activating those muscles to stimulate the nerves.

Sometimes this can be caused in a nutritional deficiency. You should take a multivitamin daily.
