The easy way would be to buy whats called a network hub (gateway) This allows multiple computers to not only share the same internet access but the files too. Also you can set up network printing and file sharing.

Normally it would be set up using the ethernet wire that you wold hook up to get on the internet. Most "Hubs" have four ports in the back for Four different computers then there is a Internet port. so if you are running DSL this is where you would plug in your DSL cable, Or if you are using Cable Internet then the same thing here.

You can find these "Hubs" at most retail stores.. the most affordable would be Walmart, Target, Stores like that.

I believe Walmart carrys Link Systems.. decent brand for the money and dependable.

If you have any more questions please dont hesitate to ask.

Best way would be to buy a router and plug them both into the router. Or if your laptop is wireless, get a wifi router and just plug the vista machine into the router.

You could also get a Cross Over cable and plug them directly into each other... you will have to set the IP address for each system to match. For example
laptop:
IP 192.168.1.10
SubNet 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.1.1

vista box
IP 192.168.1.11
SubNet 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.1.1

then you can create your share folders and access them by going \\192.168.1.10 for your laptop shares and \\192.168.1.11 for vista shares. You can share out your printer and see it this way.

The router would be the best way to go though
