My 1991 Chevy s10 won't start despite showing all signs of WANTING to fire! The engine IS turning over. I have checked all the basics too; Fully charged battery, spark plug leads are sparking when grounded, fuel line leaks when I loosen it, all belts are in good repair and moving, I replaced the spark plugs for good measure as well. I'm mechanically inclined but this one has got my hands tied. Anyone know the little things about an s10 that a new owner wouldn't? The previous owner told me that he had to apply gas when starting it in the past... I thought this to be an amature mistake. But was he onto something that I was taught early not to do?

This has throttle body injection so you an 'see' the gas being pulsed if you remove the air cleaner. Have someone crank then look. The S10 I had would not start because the fuel pump was not up to pressure one time, another it was flooding the engine. So to start I had to floor the accelerator and hold down til it started. Are your plug wet with fuel? When was last time fuel filter was changed?

Well, when mine wouldn't start and was doing what you say yours is doing, I had to replace the electronic ignition sensor. But, mine is a 1987 with a throttle body. The sensor in it was just below and behind the carburetor. (Between the carburetor and the firewall.) It was easy to remove and replace and only cost me around $40 for a new one. Had to be easy, I'm a 54 year old woman!

Spark, fuel, or compression related.

Check them in that order, there is other stuff you haven't checked or replaced.
