My water dragon is about a year old, and I have only had him for a little over a week. All he does other then just sit there very still is try to get out of his cage or away from me when I hold him. (I really don't know if he is a him or not) Is he trying to hint that he is not happy and something is wrong? Or is he just still getting used to me?

He is just getting used to you and if you have a glass enclosure try to make the glass not transparent by taping papper to the sides or back of the tank because water dragons are known as nose bouncers which is so because they don't understand that they can't walk or even run through glass and they will hurt themselves if they do this repetatively. The dragon will most likely start to bob its head and wave its hand this is also normal and nothing to worry about. Good luck and feel free to email me with anymore questions.

that's relatively normal for a dragon acclimating to a new home. i wouldn't handle him for a few more days until he can get used to his surroundings. then get him acclimated to yourself. start by just placing your hand in the Viv for five to ten minuets for a few days. then get close until your able to pick him up. keep his body cupped whilee your doing so. keep handling low and slowly increase the amount of time spent. with your lizard. water dragons make wonderful charismatic pets when there used to you. also to tell if hes male or female whil handling-check the underside of his/her tail-if there are two large bulges at the base of the tail right after his/her cloaca(anus) hes a male-those are hemephines, or the mammalian term testicles. females lack this. another way is there should be a v formation of scales going from the inside of the leg to the other leg-again this indicates male. later on males will grow more impressive crests (to wow the females of course). good luck with your dragon and i hope he acclimates to his/her new home well!

He is still not use to you, handle him for 15-30 minutes a day for about 2 weeks and he will calm down, if you want him to be more active then raise the temperature in the cage.

my water dragon never wanted to be held. she always got away from me and then it was hard for me to get her. I think its just normal. But be careful so that he doens't get lost. I wouldn't think you're doing anything wrong. They really don't do much.

i think of licking is the way they locate out approximately issues, very such as the way a canines sniffs different canines or urine to confirm approximately it. it is not undesirable. except you spot the bigger one actual attempting to break the different, like biting it, i do no longer think of you would be able to desire to stress. :)
