she's a total tomboy, but lately she's been watching me put on my make-up and is asking questions about what each thing is for and stuff, and i overheard her saying that she wants to be more "girly". so i want to do something along those lines, but stuck. i was thinking shopping or something because she doesn't have very many dresses or skirts, but i don't know. i'm 17 and can borrow my parents car, so transportation isn't a problem. thanks for any ideas!!!!

being a 12 yr old tomboy with a 18 yr old girly sis, wanting to be more girly is natural. i am becomin more girly too!
when i did that she took me shopping, got my hair done and the next day she took me to a day spa. ever since we' ve been close, and are much more alike. she would likely love somthing like a weekend with her big sis. taking her shopping and getting a makeover would be ideal.

I'm 20 and I take my ten year old sister out to eat before we go to the movies, then we go to the mall if we have time, and last but not the least, we go to Cold Stone for ice cream.

By the way, your sister is just like my sister. My sister is such a tomboy. She used to hate hate hate wearing skirts and dresses. She smells like a 6 year old boy sometimes (grass, sweat, and sun). She recently started wearing skorts and she started putting on some lotion. I've always insisted on putting lotion on her because she's so darn ashy. I guess she started liking it and got into it after a while. She also likes to watch me get ready, i.e. putting on make up, doing my hair, picking an out fit, etc.. I guess it's a step closer to being more girly.

Anyway, sometimes I take my little sister out with me when I go shopping. She is getting the drift on how I dress myself and present myself in general. I am beginning to think she likes how I dress since she has no sense of style yet. We go shopping for clothes, fragrances, shoes, jewelries, and accessories. She's experimenting with some stuff and she's a little bold on putting things together.

Every time I see something that looks good on her, I tell her to try it on. And if I can buy it for her and if she likes it, I pay for it. Little sisters appreciate all the help we can give them. Specially when they can't afford it themselves. =)

How about taking her out for a manicure/pedicure? You can arrange to have yours both done at the same time at stations right next to each other and she will feel more comfortable with you right there. Then maybe take her to lunch or dinner after so she can show off her new look.

Sounds like fun. What a lucky girl to have such a nice sister.

Shopping and Ice Cream sound like a good idea.

But encourage her to keep her tomboy side if thats who she is, she can look up to you without having to be like you. Maybe shes just a less girly girl?

If you think thats the case give her some of your time doing something she'd really enjoy because she likes it as opposed to something she thinks she'll enjoy because you like it. I'd suggest indoor rockclimbing.

Why don't you take her to the mall and go to a cosmetics counter for a makeover? I did this with my sister not too long ago and it was so fun!
