Youll get good grades. Make sure your parents can afford it.

You are asking us???

What NEED do you have, and how will your parents benefit? (Good grades, further education, research - NOT play games, download music, chat with friends). Not all parents have an extra $1000+ to shell out as a new "toy" for their kid.

Let me ask you this: What did you do with the last expensive item your parents gave to you? Did you use it for a few days then let it collect dust, or have you REALLY taken their gift to heart?

This is what will convince them that its a good idea to do. If it turns out to be a $600 Dell, be genuinely happy. Its more than you have today.

You may want an apple MacBook, and you may want to get a job as well... Maybe your parents don't need one...

Note that Mac is lack of many things, such as lacks media card reader and some other ports; only 90 days of toll-free technical support, No ExpressCard slot or FireWire 800.

That's why I'll always stick with Dell.

take them to the Apple store and show them how good a Macbook is. Do not listen to Dell guy. Mac's are the best. Show how cool they are to your parents and they may get you one.

Save your money and tell them you'll pay for some of it, or half of it.
Also try being a responsible, show them you will be able to take care of it.
Also have a list of reasons why this will benefit you and/or your schooling.

Ask for it for Christmas, birthday, or something. Say you'll need it for college or something. I dunno. But if you don't need it then why get it?
