In order to get pregnant, a sperm must meet and fertilize an egg, so any factors that affect this also affect your fertility. These include: the timing of ovulation, how long the egg lasts, whether there are any sperm present and how long sperm can live inside you.
Women who have regular periods can easily calculate when ovulation occurs. Ovulation almost always happens 14 days before you expect your period. For a woman who has 28 day cycles, that would be in the exact middle of the cycle, 14 days after the last period and 14 days before the next one. Women who have 30 day cycles can expect to ovulate 16 days after the last period, which is 14 days before the next one. Since most women have periods that last from 4-7 days, the chances of getting pregnant during your period are very low.
There is an important exception to this, however. Women who have irregular cycles cannot predict when they will ovulate. Furthermore, many women who have irregular periods also have episodes of irregular bleeding that are not periods, even though they look like periods. If you have sex during an episode of irregular bleeding, you might ovulate soon thereafter, and therefore you could get pregnant.

10 to 15 days after the first day of your period, is most people time, it can be early as 8 and later then 15 days.
I would not worry
If you are late take a test
Try not to stress out, stress can make your period late
If you do not want to get pregnant, this is what to do
1. Go to the doctor and get birth control
2. Use an condom every time you have sex
3. Always use a spermicide
If you do all three, you should not get pregnant
Remember that stress, like a dead in the family, can change a women cycle
The only way to protect yourself, is to use protection every time you have sex
Do not ask you boyfriend about the women body
Ask a women
Good luck

I had heard about "the rhythm method". That is counting on ovulating about mid-month. My periods were so regular that I didn't worry about the unprotected sex 4 days after my period.
I guess I have no rhythm!!! My daughter's name is Amanda.
I was surprised to learn that my mother, while trying to conceive back in the day, learned that she ovulated twice a month. Apparently I did too. We also had a friend who had twins conceived about a 2 weeks apart. Same scenario.
Don't take chances if you are not ready for pregnancy. As a youngster I overheard my grandma say that she could get pregnant when grandpa hung his pants on the bedpost. I wasn't quite sure how that worked but no one hung their pants on my bedpost just in case :)

I agree with JS...
Just to add something...if your scared about getting pregnant..go to the doctors and get the morning after pill...
Its just another form of contraception that you can use if you have unprotected sex or the condom happens to break.
You have up to 78 hours (three days) to get it and use it...the sooner the better.. just ask a doctor..
Talk to your doctor about practicing safe sex as well of alternate ways of contraception...
Then in the future if you plan to get pregnant then you will know what to do..
good luck

Some people say that you can get pregnant four days before and four days after your period. But I know that you can test up to one week before you next period.

It doesn't matter if it is after, before, or during your period, you CAN get pregnant. Some time's during the month are more fertile than others but anytime is a possible time. I suggest contacting your Ob-Gyn or general practitioner and discussing the situation with her. She may suggest the morning after pill. Please, please, please, always use protection.
