Setting child support has many considerations by the court; your income, your potential income, the mothers income, the costs of maintaining a home for the child, your expenses....

If you underestimate your income.....the court will not believe you anyway and will set the amount of child support....if you say you can't afford it, you will be encouraged to get a second job.

Say you make $50k gross per year, and your spouse makes $35k gross. Neither of you is paying anything (or recieving anything) from prior relationships.

You've got only the one child - you're not the parent with custody (you only get them every second weekend).
