Don't get me wrong, I don't think he is terrible. I just don't think he should be so hero worshiped as he is. If I had a line up around me like he has had, I could put up the numbers like that too. Plus when is the last time he was in the talk for a Gold Glove? His defense isn't fantastic and his arm isn't the greatest. Plus, I don't like his cockyness.

Derek Jeter is the consumate professional. He has great leadership qualities. He is consistent at the plate and in the field. He has a great bat and also is a good clutch hitter. He also carries himself with class and dignity.

Derek Jeter is everything that is right in baseball. And, no, you could not put up the numbers he has (in that lineup). If you could, you would understand just how much time, effort and dedication it takes and would have never asked such a ridiculous question.

I am a 30+ year die-hard Red Sox fan telling you this. That is how good Derek Jeter is.

Well, Rafael Palmeiro won a gold glove in 1999. He played only 28 games at first base that year! The Gold Glove means NOTHING and Jeter is an average SS.

His offense is consistently at a VERY high level, though. He hits for average, gets on base, and steals bases. When you consider that he does an adequate job at short (normally not an offensive position), he's a hell of a ballplayer. And he doesn't show any signs of slowing down, either.

Derek Jeter has won the gold glove for the past two years...I suppose you missed that amazing dive into the stands huh?? He almost won the MVP and batting title last year....he got those hits by himself...no one helped him.
Not to mention what he does off the field with his Turn 2 foundation. He's not cocky....what's wrong with thinking that anything less than winning the world series is a failure....thats not cockyness that is being determined or as he likes to call it DRIVEN!!

Derek Jeter is one of those rare and special ballplayers who is much greater than the sum of his parts.
To really understand why many consider him so great and a future Hall of Famer
notice that the littlle things he does not the big ones. It has been often been said that greatness is in the details
Jeter always leaves his at bats in the batters box he never takes them out to the field and vice versa. That is a rare quality even in a professional .
He has great situational awareness both on the field and at the plate. He's a heads up smart player.
He makes a ridiculous amount of money but comes to play every day and always leaves it all on the field. New Yorkers love ball players that hustle and play hard all the time.
Lastly Jeter never brings shame on himself , his team and the city he plays for.
He knows what being a true Yankee means and tries to honor that tradition.
Pretty impressive over all

Umm, he won a gold glove the past two years. His defense is stellar for the position that he plays and his arm, one of the best. Not an easy task to back hand a hard hit ball, jump, twist, and fire a laser to first for an out.

Great clutch hitter
and I almost forgot. He has been to the playoffs all 12 seasons of his career.

I hate him, and I hate the Yankees. He's way overrated. Shortstops are a dime a dozen. Just because he's on a multi-million dollar payroll doesn't mean he's any good. Look what happened to Abreu and A-Rod when they went there. The Yankees suck, Jeter sucks. That's that.

Which Derek Jeter are you looking at?? He's not cocky. He's a pretty reserved kind of guy. And as far as his career, have you looked at his stats??

Face it, you hate the Yankees and your jealous. You're just trying to justify your feelings and it doesn't work! Like it or not Derek Jeter will be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Get over it!

he's a consistently great player -- look at how he overshadows A-Rod, who was considered a monster superstar when the Yankees signed him. his defense is actually very good, he can play either shortstop or second base quite well, and he hits the ball very well. i don't think he's a legend per se, but he is definitely an outstanding ball player. and he isn't really that cocky, just confident. there are way cockier players than jeter.
