Uncouth?? Even if it IS the truth, it can be offensive if you throw it in someones face. However, when Im presented with hard evidence, Im impressed rather than offended. So many people think their opinion is "fact" without evidence. Thats "uncouth" to me.

Truth is in the eye of the beholder, and some people think that speaking out against "the man," "the establishment," our government or our leaders somehow makes them more open-minded and more enlightened than others, but all they're spewing is a lot of old, tired rhetoric. If that's what you consider "truth" then speaking it is definitely uncouth. Also, speaking any verified truth in a rude, tactless, elitist, or belittling manner ranks as uncouth.

In a world centered around "political correctness"
truth is somehow compromised by the shadings and "softness" placed at the edges of absolutely everything !!
And, the same as it is with a child that has been sheltered too much-- once people get use to and lulled to sleep within the confines of all of the warm and fuzzies--- straight talk can feel like a blow to the head !!!
But, sometimes the time is right for people to get the straight up unfiltered and hard edged facts without the sugar coatings and padded edges !!
I could help but notice one of the posters here talking about how you certainly don't want to say certain things to your friends that would be taken harshly ----- Well, I don't know about anyone else-- but I wouldn't want friends that I had to watch what I said to and how I said it---- If someone wants THAT kind of friends they need to join a social club--- My friends speak their mind and expect you to do the same-- no matter what--- that's how we know we're friends and not simply acquaintences !!!!

Seems like it. Seems like it's the liar who always ends up the winner. Makes ya wonder why no one wants to speak up anymore. Always innocent until proved guilty. Now if you are just out of the blue walking up to someone and blurting out a truth about them (being fat or ugly or the outfit is trashy looking) that is uncool.

It depends on how you go about doing it. If you do so in a manner that is coherent, rational and expressed in the appropriate forum (and freely accept the opinions of those who disagree with you) - then you will not be considered to be 'uncouth'
Otherwise you can expect to be dismissed as a member of the tinfoil hat club.

Oh, most definately.
People that speak the truth are called unpatriotic or at the very least overly harsh.
It reminds me of something Arthur Schopenhauer once said, "All truth passes through three stages: First, it is ridiculed; Second, it is violently opposed; and Third, it is accepted as self-evident."

That depends on how the truth is communicated. For example walking up to your friend and telling them they look like they were rode hard and put up wet would not cement your relationship.

Depends on how willing people are to hear that particular truth.

Generally yes.
Telling the truth will get you into far more trouble, far more often, than outright lying ever will.
