Trivandrum International Airport[1] (IATA: TRV, ICAO: VOTV) is an international airport in Kerala, India. It is located 3.7 km from Thiruvananthapuram (formerly known as Trivandrum) and it is the gateway for tourists to Kerala.
The airport was established in 1932 as part of the Kerala Flying Club. In January 1, 1991 it was upgraded to an international airport, making it the first such airport in India outside the metropolitan cities. Till the inaugration of the Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery, the Trivandrum airport carried almost all of the passenger and cargo traffic in Kerala. The volumes have been reduced now. However, the airport remains to be one of India's busiest as it caters to the needs of Kerala and the southern districts of Tamil Nadu state.
Trivandrum International Airport has direct flights to Kuwait, Singapore, Maldives, Colombo, Sharjah, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, Jeddah and Dubai. It is also linked with Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Kochi, Kozhikode and Bangalore by domestic flights. Most of the revenue of the airport comes from the Gulf sector, with the airport catering for the needs of the huge Kerala diaspora in the Middle East.
