I had success with the over the shoulder way, or I would sit the baby in my lap, place my hand under her chin and burp her that way. I didn't really use the lap method when they were brand new, only several weeks later on. Also, this worked great!! If you use the lap method and can't get a burp out of the baby, move her a little(pick her up after you put one hand on her belly and the other hand on her back). Just the movement from one spot to another and the fact that one of your hands was slightly pressing on her belly, that was enough to bring on a burp.

I'm sitting here burping my baby as I write this (well, there's the burp so now I'm done). Personally, I sit her up on one of my legs so she's facing perpedicular to me (i.e. I'm facing "north" and she's facing "west"). Then I put one hand on her tummy and pat her back with my other hand. Sometimes I don't even really have to pat, I can just rub both my hands back and forth once their on her tummy and back.

lay him/her over your shoulder, ok not OVER but with their head at your shoulder and body against yours- the baby faces behind you, and gently pat their back. This will allow the air in thier body to come up and they will burp. just a light tap until they burp..

I like the baby on my lap the best. Sit the baby so the bab'ys profile is what you see. Then support the chest and neck and pat his little back at the same time. It works for my guy.

I've got a 11month old and found out that the best method is to place your hand in the middle of her back and rub in a circular motion . it works every time.

Sit her up on your lap, with one hand under the chin supporting the head. With the other hand pat the back.
