Is there any good strategies/tactics out there for battleships? Or is this game purely down to luck?

I search for the biggest ship left on the board. So to start, I shoot around leaving 4 hole spaces between turns. Once the biggest ship is sunk, I shoot around leaving 3 space holes, etc.

Unless you know your opponent and how they like to place ships.

Oh, and don't place two of your own ships next to each other.

I am not sure, but I usually ene up beating my husband everytime we play. And the funny thing is I am 33 and just played battleship for the first time when I was 32. I love this game. He thinks I cheat some how because I always win. I just try to pick spots that I know he will most likely not call. He usually calls out spots that he has his ships on, and that's ahow alot of times I win. Just focus on your opponent and see where he/she is putting their ships and try to work with that. Board games are ways to spend such great family time together.

it is all on where you place your ship. pick a routine on where you attck i usually do several diagonals down from the left to the right and then from then on it almost purely chance. find a method with placing the ships and if it works just scramble it around and dont place them close together unless you have been playing the same person and just do it to throw them off.

It is all luck but you can keep your opponent guessing by keeping your ships (especially the larger ones) away from the edge of the grid.
