Since this is an opinion question...
Because I base my opinion on the belief that life begins at conception (based primarily on the fact that we have been unable to actually determine when life begins, so I error on the conservative side), abortion would be considered willful taking of a life and the punishment would be the same as any other willful taking of a life. Self-defense would be the only excuse (i.e. to save the life of the mother). In cases of rape (including incest, statutory rape), the state will assume responsibility for the child if the parent(s) (rapists have no voice) so choose.

I thought you were a pro life nut, then I read your question again. I believe the punishment for making abortion illegal should be death. And that is because God invented abortion, uses abortion every day in the form of miscarriage and left abortion out of the Bible. If a person says abortion is murder then he is saying God is a murderer.
It is a fact that when the pro life nuts "save" a fetus that it leads to the murder of 12 innocent children. And that is mass murder which is punishable by death. So if a person passes a law outlawing abortion they are a mass murderer.
I hope this helps.

I have been more aware of the abortions for the prostitutes, they are the ones getting them in order to keep up their business or I should say their managers business ( the pimp). when the business practice of the manager has been addressed then we can think about how illegal it could be, but until the finger is pointed directly to the ( pimp) which is also ( the root cause) because it has been an accepted business practice for way too long, and as long as there remains that root. no one else can be charged with a crime they did not create nor condone. Face the root and you face the fact.

WHEN abortion becomes illegal, i think we should do exactly what those woman do to their child.
Sorry for insulting, But I know how to have sex using a condom, I know how to take my birth control pill everyday, I know how to say "No" and I know how to pick up a phone and dial the local clinic, I know how to say stop drinking when I start to feel a little bit drunk, before I get too the point of passing out, I am like this now and I was like this when I was a teenager.
My mother raised me right. She made sure I knew I had no choices...Which made me make the right choices.
When someone breaks the law, Do you agree with just letting them go? Or do you say those infamous words "If you do the crime, be able to do the time"
but of course...when your pro-choice only CERTAIN things apply...

The Constitution would have to be changed in order to make abortion legal. Messing with the Constitution is a serious mistake. Whoever tries to take away our rights is the real criminal.
Anti-abortionists are dangerous because they want the government to make medical decisions for other people.

Whomever performed the abortion will face a strong legal reaction. The individual won't face much. We've become so used to abortion no one would want their daughters, wives, girl friends, going to jail. Mexico would get a lot of business.

in my opinion i think of you're thoroughly egocentric to get an abortion and kill off the main harmless person. the desirable punishment for an unlawful abortion for the guy who carried out it can be a life sentence. i be attentive to many people could think of that that is harsh yet they killed an harmless new child who didnt even have of undertaking or a say and who're we to assert who dies. i could choose for to assert the loss of life penalty yet then that is an absolute contradiction of what i merely mentioned approximately identifying who died and who didnt.

Laws and punishments vary by state.
In the US, many states still have laws on the books making it illegal to terminate a pregnancy. Those laws are just unenforceable given the current Supreme Court rulings.
If the Supreme Court changed its mind, and allowed the government to punish people, it would be up to the states.

Many women would suffer the death penalty by being forced to go to backstreet abortionists and their coat hangers, rather than being under the care of health care professionals using safe procedures.

We should murder them!!!
That would make sense!!!
(On some planet).
Fortunately more than 71% agree that abortion should be kept legal, safe, and rare.
