it won't happen because the money keep pouring in and players have it so that they get a piece of that. capping it will limit it and simply give us uni's with MORE logos and ad's on them because baseball will be trying to make more money some how...if they aren't paying a rods of this world 20 mill a season how can they justify raising prices?
this capping won't happen only because ball players think they deserve more than they get. owners won't go for it because they lesser team owners (who only own teams for the purpose of having a pro team) won't get the shared revenue the big teams kick down.

I think the NHL model would be the best-a cap and a floor, with the cap being no more than twice the floor. With the way it is now in baseball, you've got teams being outspent 3 to 1, 4 to 1, and worse. At least under this scenario, a 2 to 1 spread is as bad as it could get. Think of it this way-what if Tampa Bay, Florida, Kansas City and Pittsburgh could have a payroll at least half that of the Yankees? That would give these clubs a 100 million dollar payroll. That would enable them to re-sign many of their own free agents, while also being able to pick up some talent on the free agent market-just like the wealthier clubs do. That would make for a much more fair and equitable system than what you have in place today.

I would hope that it never happens. Just my personal opinion but I think the salary cap has ruined pro football. Maybe it's just because I am a bit older, but, I liked the days when I knew year in and year out who was playing on my team and as a kid could tell you the numbers and stats for everyone on the Baltimore Colts and Orioles. Free agency has already been a drain on baseball and it's fans. Why add a salary cap to the mix too?

I don't think it will happen, but I would love to see it. Keep in mind that I am a Red Sox fan, and I am fully aware that the Red Sox are a team that would certainly take a huge hit from a cap. But a cap would be good for the game. Even if you are a fan of a perennial favorite, parity makes for a much better game. Look at football - nearly every team has a chance on opening day. We haven't even hit opening day and already there are teams out of the playoff hunt (Royals, Devil Rays, Nationals, etc.). It's sad.

I agree that there should be. I live in a town with two teams, both of whom do spend money. But I think that if you would put a cap in place, then all teams would compete, and every year would be a new chance to win it all. Look at Tampa - they just do not have the money to compete in the East. Put in a cap, and this changes. This would only be good for the game. It works with football, it would work with baseball.

i do no longer see the MLB or the gamers association ever authorizing a earnings cap, could it help comparable communities, possibly, yet maximum communities that have small salaries have them by way of fact their vendors could incredibly line their already fat wallet with greater money. people consistently make the Yankees and pink Sox out to be the super undesirable bullies interior the MLB and could purchase any participant they choose for, that's actual faulty. George Steinbrennier himself as quickly as mentioned that the Yankees followers are keen to pay for the tickets so he owes it to them to spend that money on the gang. i'm specific the pink Sox vendors have the comparable perception, the followers pay to work out the desirable available team on the sector, if greater vendors the place keen to spend then there could be plenty much less talk a pair of earnings cap or a league minimum.

The unions and owners have a tough time agreeing on anything and the idea of a cap would not be music to the players ears so there isn't a chance this will happen.

they most certainly should have a salary cap. till they do small market teams shall continue to struggle.
unlike football and basketball where many of the tv contracts are carried by cable companies such as espn etc. baseball is done on the local level.
cities such as ny and chicago will bring in more.
but the big name players and big cities are really against it it hurts them.

There is a salary cap in baseball. If a team goes over it, they have to pay fines.
