That the same qualities that attracted the main character to his wife (her appetite, her enthusiasm, etc) come to be the things he dislikes the most; that the teenage boy asks the question that the adults are too stupid to ask. And, for me, the fact that the main character condemns his wife, but seems not to look at his own actions as contributing to the fall of the marriage.
