I use a Coralife Super Skimmer 220 on my 75gal reef tank and I love it.
You probably have the red water flow adjustment knob turned up to high, it will just "bubble water"into the collection untill it overflows.
DON"T GO BY THE INSTRUCTIONS.
Turn it down untill the bubbles are JUST touching the top of the taper before the colection cup and try that.
You will probably have to adjust more or less according to what type of skimming you want(WET or DRY) but that should be a good starting point.
Once you get it right, you should not have to play with it.
Take the small white pad out of the bottom of the bubble defuser and replace it with a more poreus foam or leave it out like I do.

I had the same problem with mine. We had to turn it down. It was sucking up too much water. Also, the break in time is awhile. Mine actually started working properly just the other day and I've had mine for almost a month. Finally, no microbubbles. Just keep turning it down until you noticing it working right.
