Hi there. I thought the book was full on entertainment, rock solid and intense as all hell. The series was competent but a bit soft focus by comparison. Do both, book first.
Then Flowers in the Attic!
Cheers, Steve.

I always try to read the book first although the mini series of the Thorn Birds was quite good, You can often be disappointed with a film even though you can then picture the people a places mentioned it is hard to fit a whole book into 90 minutes.

Loved the book, so when the mini series came out I watched. I though the actors did a good job of portraying the characters. So I liked both.

You can't go wrong with either one. I'd say read the book first. Then watch the mini-series. Both are great entertainment.

You should always read the book first, so that you can develop your own ideas about characters and events, rather than having them dictated to you by the director of a mini series!

Definitely read the book. I have a vague recollection of an Australian writer saying the Thorn Birds was the best 'bad' book she had read. Enjoy it!

i read the book first and thought it was great but then, although i did feel the film mostly followed the book, i already had pictures in my mind of the characters and found it difficult to have to have 'different' people in the roles
