i have 3 goldfish in a tank and i have had them now for 4 years. they have always been fine with no illnesses. until today. One of my fish had developed black patches on its face, small patches on its body and it is tipped around it's fins. i am good with animals but have no idea what is going on with my fish. got any suggestions what i should do. should i seperate it from the other fish? the other 2 fish look fine, with no black spots just gold.

Which do the spots appear like - a coloration of the body and fins, or definite black dots (like ich, but black)?

If it's coloration, it could be related to ammonia, as Paige said. Have you done a water test or water change recently? It could also ba a normal color change related to genetics, particularly if the lighting instesity over the tank has increased.

If this looks like small black "pustules", have you added any plants or wood to the tank recently? There is a freshwater fluke whith a larval stage similar to this. This usually is seen on wild fish, but could have been introduced to your tank in some way. These won't harm your fish.

In the box below is a diagnostic chart of fish diseases. You can look up ammonia poisoning to see if your fish has other symptoms of this and "black spot" which is the fluke.

Homemade skin whitening products are by far the cheapest and safest solution to the brown spots which trouble you so much. Read here https://tinyurl.im/aHLUf

They are very effective and at the same nurture the skin, so that you will not only have a whiter skin, but a healthier one too.

Each and every person wants a clean and radiant skin. Some spend fortunes on cosmetic products that will lighten the skin and remove all the imperfections, others spend their money on esthetic operations in the hope that their skin will look perfect. Lastly, there are people trying to fake a healthy skin by using all kinds of makeup that will cover the imperfections and leave the impression that the skin is healthy and has no scars, wrinkles or spots.

All these people are looking for a way through which they can make their skin look good. Yet, what they have not taken into consideration is the power of natural ingredients. Fruits, vegetables and products coming from animals are great sources of anti-oxidants and are rich in substances which can whiten the skin, moisturize it, attenuate the fine lines and wrinkles and give it elasticity.

Most commonly, black spots on goldfish are actually burn wounds from ammonia spikes. Over-crowding, poor water conditions and over-feeding can lead to ammonia burns and persistent ammonia spikes are lethal to the fish. There is also a "black-spot disease" caused by snails. This is more common in ponds but if you purchase your goldie from a fish store where snail infestations are prominent, this could be the source of your problem. A salt dip is recommended and frequent water changes necessary. There is no over-the-counter medication for this disease.

If you have another tank, quarantine the sick fish. Check with your local fish supply store for more thorough info on what it could be. Your fish may just need a week by himself with some anti-fungal tablets in his water.

Take away that fish, it has fungi and that is contagious. Buy meds from the pet store for that fish, they cost roughly five dollars.
