About 9 year ago got into a horrible snowmobile accident and i broke my leg and injured my back. i went to the doctors and the chiropractor and they both did there majic. between then and now i have been doing plenty labour jobs and just 2 years ago i went to go lift my computer to move it and all of sudded my back went. so i went back to the chiropractor and he fixed it putting me 2 days off of work. just this past summer i had bad luck with it. i was shoveling some fertilizer at my work and it went again, i was put off work for 2 weeks on workers comp. then about 2 months later it went again at work and the chiropractor yet again put me on workers comp for 5 and a half weeks. so while i was off i was talking to a co worker and he says im over weight, i dont think it is that but i could be wrong im 6 feet tall and weigh 210Lbs i do and enjoy heavy labour. does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be and if they have any tips to help it? considering the doc and chiro dont.

Well I work for a chiropractor and it sounds like you might have a disc related problem in your spine. My suggestion would be to get a lumbar spine MRI (most ins covers it) and see if you have either a herniated disc, bulging disc, or degenerated disc. If you do, unfortunately, there are only a few good treatments out there for those conditions. One is surgery which is a big risk because of only an overall success rate of 40%. The treatment we use to treat it is spinal decompression which is about 85% successful nationwide. We have it here in out office in the bay area. If you live somewhere else in the U.S. then check out axiomworldwide.com for lists of this type of treatment elsewhere. If you do live in the bay then check out our website at www.bayareabackpain.com Good luck with your back issue and try to address it as quick as possible so that it doesnt get worse. In the mean time use 15-20 minute sessions of ice 2-3 x per day.

If you have a big belly it can put pressure on your back. Think of a woman with big breasts, she'll have back problems as a result. So the weight distribution can be off.

So losing weight will be good if you have a gut.

However, you should invest in a backbrace for when you do heavy lifting of any sort. It's just common sense.

you need to wear a back brace if you arent when you do this kind of work. also i dont think you are giving your injury enough time to heal before you start again. rest a little more and get painkillers too. but if you do get painkillers dont take them until you are done with the work because then you wont feel the pain and can overstress your back without realizing it.
