From today's Ron Paul commentary: "Understand that residents of DC can be convicted of a felony and put in prison simply for having a gun in their home, even if they live in a very dangerous neighborhood. "

Can anyone honestly say the police will show up and save you when someone breaks in? Will they be there in 30 seconds?
How is this kind of thinking called Free?

Only on a relative scale. We're more free than many other countries, but many of our freedoms are still heavily regulated.

And Ron Paul's commentary is obsolete, since the DC circuit overturned the DC gun laws a few days ago.

To your first question; no it is not, and thank God. What you're looking for is anarchy, which is a system where you can really do anything you want, until your neighbor kills you for your dog. As far as civilization goes one likes to think we're usually closer to free than we could be.

Now if you want to ask a question about gun laws, I'd need to know more about why these people have their second amendment rights suspended. I assume it's because they live in a city that is the seat of our federal government.

compared to other countries, its the free-est country on Earth. You have the opportunity moreso here than anywhere, to become a self-made success. You can speak your mind, go where you want, have th ejob of your choice...of ocurse its free. But its freedom structured around laws. as long as one operates within the law, then they are free to pursue anything they wish to pursue.

just because one regional government makes a law does not mean the whole country should suffer the indictment of attacking the freedoms we enjoy.

America lost it's freedom when it's Constitution was gutted by the Patriot Acts 1 and 2. Patriot Act 2 was rejected at first, then later tacked on in parts to other bills that were guaranteed to pass.

If you read the Acts you'll be packing your bags half way through.

Well, all the news articles say that the law was overturned as unconstitutional on March 9 after 30 years on the books. Looks like someone has their facts wrong.

sure and no. in evaluation to international places with the two no/little or no government like somalia and afghanistan, it might seem as though the US had much less freedom because of the fact we've greater regulations. yet out economic opportunities supply us freedom that maximum in those failed states have not got. in comparison to totalitarian governments like North Korea, we've heavily greater freedom in our daily lives, yet we are nonetheless chained to the social settlement that each and each democratic government has with it rather is human beings. finally, the question of despite if or no longer we are loose is per plenty greater complicated factors than merely how plenty it expenditures to stay interior the U.S.

The people of DC were free to elect officials who made the law. The best thing for them to do is to vote for officials who will revoke the law.
True freedom = disaster.

that is quite sad but true. much of the constitution applies only to certain people. new laws and legilation such as the Patriot Act just take away many rights from people for no reason.
