Yes. I have great respect for "teachers", but I also had some teachers who sucked. They didn't get my respect. A job position is innate; the holder of the position earns respect.

Yes you can. I can respect the office of president or vice president or any other government office in this country or out of this country. This does not mean I have to respect, agree with, like,or even tolerate the person holding that office. If pretend respect was required why even bother having elections or debates? Just put someone in there and let the person do his thing. Thank God, for the moment, this country still has freedom of speech, up to a point that is. Your question reminds me of the women who wanted to make a law making it a crime to publicly disagree with the president.

The office was first occupied by George Washington and then 42 other men. Just because one man's decisions are not yours does not mean that the office should not still be respected. For example, Nixon was our president but does anybody respect him? No, but 23 years later we still respect the Presidency. When it comes right down to it, we the people elected Bush to be president, the "office" did not. Thus, we should lose respect in ourselves and hope we make a better choice in the future.

Let's use the President of the United States as a perfect answer.
The prez is the most powerful person in the world. The OFFICE he hold is respected by all countries - friend or foe-.
The person:
I do not respect Bill Clinton as Prez because he LIED UNDER OATH. To uphold the Constitution is his commitment. Perjury is not upholding the Constitution - not even when its about sex -

So the office is respected because it is the most powerful in the world - the man in this case is not.

Of course. i am in that situation right now where i respect the office but not the one who is running it because people who is running the office gives the office a bad name, not the other way around. If the one who runs it look good then the office also will be too.

Yes the office itself will live well after it's inhabitant leaves it. We have had average presidents(Clinton, Ike) Great presidents(Reagan, FDR) and poor presidents (Nixon, Carter) Respect for the office is consistent with respect for the other institutions that make America great. Just as we have had good, bad, and average people in the military and in education and politics in general, the nature of those who occupy those positions have not destroyed the institutions themselves

Absolutely. We must always respect the Office of President of the US, but that doesn't mean we have to necessarily respect the man. The office earned our respect a long time ago...the man has yet to.

Just like good cop, bad cop.
There is always someone that screws up and someone has to pay for it.
The office is just what it is, that does not change, but the people do. That's why they have elections. Some change for the good and some do not. We learn to take the good with the bad and try to make the best of it. Like going to a movie, even most bad movies have good points.
Does that help.?

optimistic. harmless till shown to blame. conversing of to blame without actual outcomes: Bush become given extra know than he deserved as he persevered to dismantle the form, bill of Rights, initiate wars in accordance with fake premises, undermine the economic shape of the country. He must be fabulous only like his pal Saddam Hussein -- a kinfolk vendetta taken care of below the auspicies of retaining the country. So Obama symbolizes wish and could be respected till shown in any different case. He can not probably compete with the cynical imperialistic habit of Bush.
