My guinea pigs are always sneezing, and stuffy. I have tried all sorts of different bedding. I keep them away from drafts, I keep them warm and give them vitamin C. but it always seems like I am taking them to the vet for URI's! Any ideas?

Guinea pigs actually sneeze a lot anyway. Think about how low to the ground they are...they have their noses in shavings all the time! If you have switched bedding a lot, then at least you are starting with the usual culprits. Have you tried Care Fresh? That's very low dust.

Also, some guinea pigs can be allergic to some types of hay, even Timothy, which they love. So try some different brands of hay too, or try shaking it out a bit before you put it in the cage to get rid of as much dust as you can.

Did you know that guinea pigs can get kennel cough? So can rabbits. If he's just sniffling & sneezing, that's one thing, but a lot of coughing might warrant a trip to the vet.

You might also want to try some different brands of pellets, as he may be allergic to something (probably the hay type) in them.

Hope that helps!!

get a second opinion from a different vet , try to find one that specializes in exotics... they will tell you everything... make sure you have a list of questions for them... even write it down so you dont forget... good luck smile
