How long until they become mainstream in warehouses? Govt and walmart are the big users now. Any knowledge on this would be helpful

While it is true that some people are already using RFID, the small to medium sized - and even some large - manufacturers are finding that there are so pretty large problems with the system. It's not surprising to learn tha Wal-Mart was the first big U. S. user of RFID (that was about 5 years ago) but they are already down scaleing their use of it.
CPB (Customs and Border Protection) isn't pushing RFID so much now as they have in the past. They are relying more on
the scanning and container x-ray machines and physical inspections. And it is true that they have the manpower to physically inspect less that 3% of the containers going in and out of the country every day.

They already did. UPS, FedEX and DHL already use them. Automakers and other manufacturers use them.
