Do you want things you need, or do you want things you need to do? The answers are very different. I think the first person that answered was right on what things you need when you move into an apartment, though I would add your own set of tools to the list. If you need to know what you need to do when you move, make sure you change your address with the post office, and make sure that all your creditors know you moved, like your car insurance, or your electric company, cable bill, credit card bills, bank, work etc. That's not five things, but to me that is most important.

A survival pack. Get a rubbermaid tote and put in a couple rolls of toilet paper, roll of paper towels, some paper plates, cups, silverware and a phone (if you have a landline).
Good Luck & Have fun moving!
Oh, and don't forget the Clorox Wipes!

**Look for a place within your range of what you can afford
**Look at the place, ask questions about the place, what is included? Check for damages, point them out to the landlord. Check if you are allowed pets. Check if you need to get insurance. How much is Damage Deposit...ask questions..
**Start packing up your stuff.
**Get your utilities in order, call the utilities companies to hook up the utilities to your new address..
**Get a mover, check out rates. I usually call 3 for estimates. Tell them the date you'd like to move, tell them what you have to move, boxes, furnature, appliances...stay with the movers, or get someone to stay with them. Or get your friends to help you...pay them Gas at least, minimum...
I hope this helps. I have had to move many times.
