For the past two to three weeks, I have been experiencing pain in my tailbone (specifically, right above the "butt crack" - graphic, but necessary). Could this be a fracture? I have no idea how I would have done it, but I fractured my foot in November and still don't know how I did that. If it is a fracture, is there anything I can do outside of taking Advil? Do I really need to see a doctor for a diagnosis and something for immobilization, or is it more of a "wait it out" game?

Sounds like a fracture. Also sounds like you need to be treated for osteoporisis. A doctor can't do much for the tailbone only time and tlc will take of it.

It feels horrible. I fractured my tailbone on January and it stills hurts a lot. You should go to the doctor and get it checked, although all they will do is give you pain killers. I am in so much pain, I am looking for alternative medicine to see if something else will help.
How do you know? It hurts when you sit down or sit up, your butt (muscle) might also hurt, so could your legs... those are my pains anyways, I have a bad unusual fracture. In "common" tailbone fractures (my term), the bone breaks inward, which could cause very serious medical problems (you can image with what), so from that stand point you should see a doctor.
But again, as others point out, time, pain killers, a donut, TLC, is probably all you will get. I was told my fracture is not healing because I refuse to stay immobile for any prolonged period of time... but I think I will have to comply with doctor's orders soon, very soon. It is truly very painful.

I broke my tailbone, yes, it breaks off. It hurt so bad for several weeks, especially when rising from a sitting position. According to the doctor, there is nothing that can be done and that the "bone" is eventually absorbed by the body. After the initial pain is gone, there will be no pain unless you sit down on something hard that the tailbone is supposed to cushion.

There is little that a doctor can do for a fractured tailbone. My friend had one a few years back after falling off of her horse. She ended up taking it easy and using pillows and Tylenol.
Hope you feel better!

Proudly march into the vet sanatorium mutually with your Willy. Who knows, you will possibly be able to fulfill a girl there that likes your Willy and thinks you're undesirable no longer the two.

I would go to the doctor anyway, even though he can't do much about it. He could give you stronger pain meds if Advil isnt doin the trick, but it is one of those things you have to wait out.
