I have an M reg Vauxhall Corsa and have noticed a kind of rattle noise coming from underneath the bonnet sometimes. I think it may be something loose, perhaps a pipe or something coming from the engine? It sometimes feels as if something may be hitting off of the pedals (or cables attached to the pedals).

I'm not very mechanical minded but does anyone have any idea as to what the problem is, and perhaps, roughly how much it would cost to fix?

Thanx in advance.

All good answers. I had a similar problem with my truck. It drove me crazy till I crawled under it and figured out it was the catalytic converter. See if you can take it off and just replace with a new pipe and clamps , it will be really cheap to fix this way or just take it off and beat the insides out of it and then put back on. If you can`t do either , just take it in and plan on spending around 100 to 150 bucks depending on where you go. I hope this helps--Good Luck

Your exhaust system is held in place by rubbers that wrap around small brackets. If one of these rubbers has come loose then the piece of exhaust that it is supposed to be holding will rattle and move around. This can cause it to knock on the underside of your floor pan and the noise and vibration will travel through the floor and sound quite bad. This is a very simple problem to solve, the rubbers just need to be re attached to the holding brackets and the problem will stop.

Take it to a garage!
I wouldn't recommend Kwik Fit as i used to work for them years ago and i have seen them do some very bad things to peoples cars!
Plus their wages are based on what they sell you!
Not Good!
If you want to check the exhaust yourself just grab the pipe at the back of the car and shake it like hell!

Mopar is almost certainly correct, if it is a rattle and not a knocking it is most likely to be the the down pipe shield, and if not too corroded can be fixed, if it needs replace it's not too expensive.

Probably not your exhaust - this runs along the underside of your car from the engine. Go to Kwik Fit and get it looked at - they are quite reasonable and will look at it there and then if they aren't too busy. If you do need a new exhaust it will be around £150.

Ask your boyfriend to look under the car in the area where the muffler is. Have him shake it and attaching pipes to it and he may see what is loose.

Take your car to your local garage, and ask them to put your car up on the ramp, they will find the fault in no time at all ,and they will tell you what the cost will be .
