Perhaps if you explained the context a bit, as your question doesn't make sense.
Emotions ARE what motivate us.
The problems are what emotions, and what they motivate us to do, but we aren't motivated unless there's an emotion involved.
Notice the similarity of these words -- they're very closely related.
As I say, if we knew what you and those others are talking about, maybe we could help.

Having a debate with someone?
Emotions, joy, love, passion, lust, anger and hate to name a few are all motivators. If you didn't feel lust would you ever have sex? If you don’t feel anger would you change a bad situation?
Emotions are "energy in motion”. It is this energy that compels us to act on our thoughts. That is a reason.
Emotions spur us on in pursuing a spouse, getting a better job, ending a relationship and so on.
Is it wise to let emotions rule your behavior? Not always. Should you end a relationship or quit a quit a job in the heat of the moment? No
While emotions give us the energy to act, we also need to take the time to logically think about the situation before we act. We need to look at both sides, look at all options and the possible outcomes.

no entirely. If emotions are only used then if you are having an emotionally bad day you wont be able to move forward as if you could with practical will. Ultimately however if you arent happy with a situation then your emotions can lead into a better situation. People are complex and it takes more than one thing to motivate a person.

your motivation is an emotion and it came from a mix of other emotions. in order to get motivation you must learn to listen to your emotions and not analyze everything intellectually.

Emotional satisfaction should motivate someone because otherwise there could be no concept of purposive action, and this seems to go against my intuitive ideas of humanity and individuality.

Our emotions do motivate us. It's just the way we're wired. We really don't have a choice in the matter. We're not vulcans.
