Mahal: Fair tax bill do not cause "poor people who pay no income tax right now, but would begin to pay an additional sales tax on all the products they buy" because fairtax repeal the income tax and a whole lot of other federal taxes. On top of that, everybody gets a check to cover the basic necessities of food and clothing. Which would make the "poor" come out on top.

zaphodsc…
I am glad you know about fairtax, but come to your own conclusion... I read the link you posted here are my initial thoughts:

Problem #1:The FairTax hides the amount of sales tax being paid - Shouldn't we be blaming govt. schools for not teaching how to calculate % of something rather than blaming it on the proposal. Any body that pay fair tax will be able to tell you (if the have the slightest clue what fair tax is) how much tax they are paying.. But tell me, how many American can tell you how much (in % or $) they pay in taxes?

Problem #2:The FairTax is progressive. - Why is this a problem. The rich pay more taxes by spending more. Why is that a problem ???

Problem #3: The FairTax is an income redistribution scheme. How is this different from today’s welfare checks and other govt. hand outs with no accountability. People are saying rich is getting rich and poor is getting poor, but when a conservative comes up with an idea to redistribute wealth, it is a no no

Problem #4:The FairTax creates new tax collectors. - compare that to the number of people that file tax return every year, ~ 300 million people (every legal American resident), corporations, businesses etc. With current tax code, a business man files at least two tax returns.. (One for family, one for his business). Not to mention all the compliance costs.

Problem #7: The FairTax makes it easier for the federal government to raise taxes. - How hard is it to raise taxes now?.. And how many times have they raised taxes since the inception for federal income tax?. And the idea is to cut the spending, not to increase the taxes to match up with increased spending.

Problem #8: The FairTax makes it easier for state governments to raise taxes. - Raising state taxes might boot short term revenue, but what about the businesses that wants to come to your state but stay away from it due to high taxes?.. The state tax laws will not change with fairtax. If they won't raise the tax now, they won't do it just because of fair tax. It will be advantageous for state to convert their tax law to mimic fair tax because of its simplicity.

Problem #10:The FairTax makes certain exceptions while supposedly having none. LIE. Neither internet access nor college tuition is exempt from the Fair tax because both are services. Read the book!

Problem #11: The FairTax has great potential for fraud. - And IRS is perfect!.. Give me a break!

Problem #12:The FairTax has the potential to turn thousands of law-abiding Americans into criminals. This is a good one. If you get income now, you are supposed to report it and pay taxes through IRS. Under fairtax, collecting tax is cost of providing goods and services. Why would these people suddenly become criminals?..

Problem #13: The FairTax does not repeal the Sixteenth Amendment. - There is a sunset provision in H.R. 25 that would repeal the Sixteenth Amendment within 5 years after the implementation of the FairTax or the FairTax goes away

Problem #15: The FairTax is not at all about lowering the amount of taxes the government collects. - The dems can't wait to raise taxes to increase revenue, but is against a tax code that would save America billions?.. Hypocrisy anyone?

Problem #16: The FairTax doesn't even begin to address the root of the problem. - I guess he is taking about the idea of collecting taxes in it self.. Guess what, I like the national security and the federal highways.. Where did you expect the money to come from if not for taxation ?

Problem #17: The FairTax makes welfare universal. - Okay, so you get a check that covers cost of basic necessities, why is that a problem?.. It is the money you played as taxes. If you have not spent that money in food and clothing’s, you deserve that money so that you can survive, if you spend more than the money you get back, well for you!. It is your money anyway!

I know fair tax is the best thing that could happen to America and worst thing that could happen to politician.. Isn't it funny, no body talk about what good Fairtax would bring to this country. Fair tax would make US a tax heaven for corporation. Which means more goods flowing out of the country, more jobs, more income. .. But just because it is by a conservative republican, you gotta hate the idea just because!

The FairTax is yet a thought with a acceptance which appeals to taxpayers. In all seriousness, do you actual assume a hundred Senators and 435 Congress people to maintain their mitts off of a FairTax, if the belief have been exceeded ? The ink from the president's signature in this type of bill would not be yet dry in the previous this crowd of politicians could be in corners huddled at the same time, wrangling changes and exemptions to the 'FairTax' to in a roundabout way help their districts and ingredients. in case you think of the rest could happen, I even have some wonderful beachfront on the industry at an captivating fee good interior the process the Mojave barren area.

The Fair Tax bill allows each person to determine how much federal tax they pay based on how they spend their money, not on how much they earn!

The Fair Tax only applies to new retail sales and services. The tax is paid only once. When you buy a used item, there is no federal tax paid.

There is no taxes on business operations. (Businesses do not pay taxes under the current system as their tax is a "cost of doing business" and is passed on to the consumer, paid by the employee or deducted from stockholder dividends.) In case you do not realize it, that is you and me!

The Fair Tax Bill provides a rebate to every household equal to the amount of federal sales tax up to the poverty level for the household. Therefore, low and fixed income households at or below poverty level do not pay any federal taxes.

Sounds like replacing the income tax with sales tax.

This would most impact poor people who pay no income tax right now, but would begin to pay an additional sales tax on all the products they buy.

There would be no way to shelter them the way Bush has and others before him.

Yep

And Neil Boortz still has yet to convince me it is preferable to the current system.

Too many variables regarding "embedded taxes" which he has trouble explaining about.

If you only get your propaganda from Boortz on this topic, you will sadly be misinformed.

I am no fan of the Income tax or IRS but this plan seems to replace one devil with another.
