I read in a doomsday book about a solar system eclipse that will block the view from the earth of the center of the galaxy, so i was hoping that someone can explain this. (its not a solar eclipse where the view of the *sun* is blocked by the moon neither is a lunar eclipse where earths shadow can be seen in the moon).

Hi. The actual object at the center of our galaxy is Sag A* (pronounced Sagittarius A star). I have never looked to see if the Sun or Moon blocks our "view" or not, but I do not believe any harm would come from it. Besides, the Earth "eclipses" it every day.

Since the center of the galaxy is in Sagittarius and the sun passes through the same every year anyway, I don't see what the excitement is.
