First of all, your friend is not addicted to pot. But, she probably really likes getting high, and so may want to continue to smoke. Much as I feel it should be legal, I would not ever condone its use in young teens. Teens have enough problems dealing with life changes and smoking pot won't help. That said, there's not a lot you can do for her. It has to be her decision to quit. Perhaps if you talk to her and let her know that you do not approve of her use and are worried about the consequenses of it, and explain to her that this is the reason for you backing away from the friendship, she may decide to reconsider. It won't necessarily work, as most who get into drugs tend to choose new friends into the same activities. Just let her know you are there for her, but not as long as she's smoking. It's your choice, too, and if you choose to stay away from pot and her, then that is ok. Although pot is pretty harmless (most of what is said about it is nothing more than scare tactics and propaganda), 13 is too young. There can be some serious issues in young users. When you talk to her, try to make the discussion from your point of view. "It scares me that you have chosen to smoke pot" rather than "You shouldn't smoke pot." Making demands doesn't work, and often has the opposite of the desired effect.

She obviously doesn't need friends any more---because now she has a "chemical" friend.
There's no point to wasting time with her---you have no control over her, anyway. Get out and find some new friends.

it hurts because one of my best friends is 14 and shes been doin that **** since she was 12.....it hurts me because people at this age are SO innocent and they're already corrupted...i honestly want to know how to stop my friend...but I can't...its her life...I can tell her all the affects...I can try to persude her...but addictions are hard to stop....sooo try to get her to a psyc...or doctor...to help her out and open her eyes....it sucks....my one best friend has been changing...it hurts so much....but...if you love them that much....help them change back to the way they used to be.
