I'm moving out of the contry for a couple years and would like to put some money away to come home to. I know cd's are better than bank accounts but is there something better than cd's.

Here's a thought: invest the cash...do some quick reading (before you go) about investing in the markets. Something as simple as a " conservative" mutual fund will make you probably twice as much as any bank account or CD over the next couple of years.....
http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor/research/fundwelcome.asp?=Funds=1
If you can figure out that site and look at a few moderate allocation funds...or even index funds...then go to some site like E-trade, Fidelity, Vanguard....and invest that nest egg...it'll grow at 8, 9, maybe 11 or 13% for awhile...you'll be amazed at the diff that makes over a 5% cd.
AND... depending on where you're going ( unless it's the wilds of Borneo) you can " check on " your nest egg on any computer you come across!
If you do ...look into some kind of 'global" or " international" fund......let the whole world work for you.
Hope you have a nice time.
