I was at the hospital this morning and was given 25 mg of misoprostol on my cervix to help ripen my cervix...I am being induced by pitocin in 2 days. I was 1 1/2 cm and 50% effaced this morning before she did it. They sent me home an hour after giving it to me and wasn't checked because I wasnt having any cramping...but now ( 1 1/2 hrs later) I am feeling cramping and mild back pain. Basically what Im asking is...has anyone had cervical ripening done and gone into labor?

With my last baby, I was considered high risk since I was 38 and had Gestational Diabetes. Oddly, I was 41 weeks and was not effaced or dilated at all so I was given a gel insertion following my usual weekly non-stress test and ultrasound. I was told to expect some mild cramping, but I had a bad reaction to the gel and I began having 6 minute contractions. My baby went into distress and I had doctors and nurses all over reading the fetal monitor print-outs and they called in "The Doctor" (the one who was listed as my doctor on my paper-work, but I never saw him until then). Because I had no signs of labor before the gel insertion, I was told that I would lay on the table for a certain amount of time and then be sent home in hopes of going into labor naturally before my next weekly appointment when I would be induced. My gel insertion scared the heck out of me and caused quite the commotion for a little while. I went from no effacement and no dilation at noon to having a healthy baby girl at 7:39 PM. So, yes, I had cervical ripening and went into immediate labor. But, from the reaction of the techs, nurses, and doctors, I don't think that is normally what happens.

The danger is that it might work TOO well

I suggest you google "cytotec, dangers". This is a highly dangerous drug. It has not been approved for use with pregnant women.

Women have lost their wombs and their babies to this dangerous drug. It is quite common for it to cause contractions that are so harsh, the uterus ruptures. This is on the package insert, but your doctor did not tell you about it.

Of course, lots of women don't experience this complication. But please do a bit more research about what is going in to your body.

Don't induce your baby. If the baby is not ready to come out, why force it? The only benefit is to the hospital, saving them time and money, not to you.

Any kind of induction increases the risks to you and your baby.
