In one of the staffing agencies that I am registered with, I didn't hear from her since January of this year. But the last project I did, I didn't finish the project. It was for 3 days, but the client told me that she no longer needed my "help". In the other agencies I am registered with, once they send the temps on an assignment, and the project goes longer then what the staffing agency tells the temps, the temps stay longer. For example, lets say it is a filing project for a week, but the week is over and the temps that worked at the company didn't finish, they are suppose to stay until it is finished. So, is that a terrible sign since I didn't finish the project because the client told me that my services are no longer needed?

Margaret,

It's hard to say for sure but likely, it's not a good sign. I have done temp work (of a different kind) but if a client declines your services after a few days, the agency will not be able to place you there again. Now, if this was the only time it happened with that agency and the reason the client dimissed you wasn't serious, you're still in their good books. The only possibility that the agency hasn't placed you again is that there are no other placements since then. Or the manager at the agency is the weird type and won't place you.

I did temping through this one agency once and had a bad experience. Almost every business they sent me to at least enevr complained, often took me again. But there was this one place that took a lot of temps. After 2 weeks, I was told my the agency manager the GM at that place didn't want me back. I was floored! I was self-conscious for days! I really never had someone flat out refuse me just over one tricial incident. Then later that week, the manager at the agency was laughing. I asked what was so funny and he told me "Paul doens't want another back!" It turns out this client routinely does this. The slightest incident, no matter how trivial, he refuses to have the person back. The manager complained it's really hard to get enough people for him because he has a "do not send" list that runs off the computer screen! In other words, Paul was an idiot! And, a few months later, we had another client just like Paul. No matter who we sent him, he didn't want the person abck the next day. These types regard temps as lazy scum and don't want them getting used to working regularly at their business. They're idiots!

I wouldn't sweat it unless you don't get other assignments from other companies.

Why not call the agency and ask if there was a problem. You certainly have a right to know if there was.

I worked for a temp agency years ago, and if they're the same now as they were then, their clients are usually a giant pain in the ***.

Good luck.

Yes, it is a bad sign. It seems that the client didn't like your work. But don’t allow this to put you down. You should look for something else, perhaps another staffing agency.
