I don't know about most people but I know exactly why I hate MATH and I'll be honest about my reason. I hate math because of my own lack of understanding because in third grade, I just stopped paying attention after the adding and subtraction era ended. I mean, I just felt like things were going to get hard on me once multiplication and division entered the equation, so I stopped paying attention and refused to learn. I won't blame the teachers but in 3rd & 4th grade, my teacher passed me because I had good conduct and I was a good student. However, my 5th grade math teacher, Mr. Shackleford made me realize that I wasn't putting my all into it and he failed me and began working with me. I learned that multiplication and division were the keys to solving any and all math problems or any problems you may have with accounting. Now, I'm much better at math and in all factors of math including: adding, subtracting, multiplying, & dividing.

Most people hate math because of the way it is taught. It needs to be taught in context and shown where it will help the person in real life. Once you get past the basics then algebra becomes the most important class because it deals with how to find the unknown when given a list of knowns. Understanding logic can help in real life with every decision we make. I always loved math because it was the only field that was perfect and if you got the answer right you got the answer right and your grade outcome did not depend upon the teacher's opinion.

i think its more about the culture...i mean if a bunch of guyz skateboarding by a ramp, use notebooks to find out the exact height they have to jump off from or the exact velocity they have to launch themselves...i think calculus wud get a lot more interesting, i guess part being its just a bunch of numbers in the classroom, and after a while every college kid is askin "we don't need this **** man" unless he knows he wants to get into the proffessional market. I think that's the reason for most of the population...now unless someone's right side is more developed than left, obviously he won't enjoy mathematics as much as he would painting or writing books, or thinking.
Just a side note: It's also easier to bullshit through philosophy and write notes like "it will touch you and make you feel, when u commit a sin unforgiven, and then you cry, but it will be late for the crime is already done" <-- u get the idea...on the other hand mathematics, and higher physics (quantum, theoretical) get so challenging u can't really bullshit through them writing a bunch of numbers.

Math is learning to recognize an equation/question and knowing the answer for that type of question. Math also involves the memerization of answers for math related questions. Math is a complex thing that many find challenging to do, due to it's many areas, ie:trig, ratio, calculus... There is not always a set pattern for all questions, and the math we are taught in school, is not generally things we can apply to real life situations, therefor it's boring to many people, most of the stuff they teach us in schools is only a requirement for specific work fields.

There is a study done by scientists and they determined that people that use their hands, like with sports and activities like this, (in essence people with good hand-eye coordination), that they do worse in math. this is based on communication between the two halves of the brain through a certain pathway. And people that are good at math tend not to have excellent hand-eye coordination. Generally, women are good at math, and males are bad at math.

Who are "most people?" I am married to an engineer, and I am surrounded by peole who love math.
I really think their brains are hardwired a little different than the rest of society, though. lol
