I think the monster is a network executive in a suit. I've been watching this show since its inception, and they've never answered a question anyone cared about. So I'm done.

No I dont think it's a way to provide writers with ideas. The monster and what it is was something they had in mind long before some one asked the question here.

first of all, Lost is boring and lame!!! I was really into the show during the first 4 or 5 episodes, but soon lost interest. I believe the "creature or monster" is just their imaginations. when the show finally ends (hopefully soon) someone in a coma will wake up and realize it was all a dream and write a book about it.

The ratings for the show. It's slowly killing off peole's interest in the show! Or possibly the writers themselves, they are slowly killing the show too. It was really good the first season and I avidly waited the return and blah, I think the "other" snatched my interest away!

The smoke monster that killed Mr. Eko? Probably Dick Cheney's bad breath.

It is a demonic wraith that is hairless and bald and has long, sharp teeth and it whistles through its anus.
